Weekly Recap: 12 Weeks Until the Paris Marathon

Short and sweet recap this week of training for the Paris Marathon!

Monday: I was heading out the door for an early run when I learned that my 12:40 flight from Heathrow to JFK was cancelled- just cancelled, no explanation, no rebooking…Fortunately my EA was able to book me on an earlier flight on a different airline. But that meant instead of running, I needed to pack up and head right to the airport. Apparently a lot of flights were cancelled due to the weather in NYC, though they never said why for mine.

When I arrived in NYC, the sun was shining. I checked in my hotel and changed into my warmest running clothes and headed out for a lap of Central Park; it was only 10F or -12C! I am a wimp now and I was cold, but the sun did help. 7 miles done.

I also met a vizsla named Weston who looked like Ruth’s twin!

I was lucky as there were not work dinners planned for Monday since it was a US holiday, so I was able to run, shower, catch up on a bit of work, grab something quick for dinner, and was asleep by 7:30 pm!

Tuesday: I met my friend Jehan and her friend Selina for another Central Park run; Jehan is also running Paris! I knew her from when she briefly was based in Minneapolis for work, and we have stayed in touch. Running is great like that! We ran 8 miles together, nice and easy with frozen faces.

The rest of the day was packed with meetings and then a dinner.

Wednesday: I was proud of myself for meeting my colleague at 6 am for another Central Park run, this time just 5.5 miles.

I wasn’t sure with the late dinners and longs if I would manage to run every day, so I was proud of myself for doing so. My Whoop was mad at me though- I was in the “red” zone for both Wednesday and Thursday.

Thursday: I had a 5 am uber to JFK for my flight back to London. It was basically a day that never really existed since I left NYC early and landed in London “late.” Fortunately I could shower and go right to bed. Back in the yellow at least on my Whoop (much prefer to be in the green!)

Friday: WFH day, thank goodness! Dustin and I ran 7 miles together; we did’t bring Ruth because it was raining and she hates running in the rain, but it had stopped when we got back so I took her out for a bonus 1.5 miles in the Heath. 8.5 miles total.

Saturday: Back to Heathrow for a flight to Geneva to go snowboarding in Verbier! I am writing this week off with regards to Paris training, as I never have great luck running when we are on a ski/snowboarding trip. I brought my stuff, but imagine it won’t happen much…

Sunday: First day snowboarding in Verbier; hoping it goes well! Will report back.

Summary: Just 28 miles of running, no strength training. Not my best week!
