10 weeks until the Paris Marathon! Here’s my recap of training this past week:
Monday: Total rest day. My tailbone/pelvis was still feeling weird after the fall when snowboarding in Verbier, so I had hoped a day of TLC would help, which it did.
Tuesday: Track Tuesday! I had a dentist appointment later in the morning so was wfh until then, so was actually able to hit the track when it opened at 7:30. Warm-up, 8x600m hard with 400m recovery jog, 8 miles total. Heartcore pilates after work.
Wednesday: My friend Kelly was doing a 20 mile (she’s running the Tokyo marathon) so I joined her for the first 8, turning it into a longer run commute. I don’t love to wear the backpack for so long with a laptop and more in it (it gets heavy!) but it was fine…
Core and lower body strength after work.
Thursday: Run with my friend Tina, 7.8 miles. My Garmin went crazy and said I ran a 5:11 min/mile and then it changed all my “PR’s” on my watch. Quickly deleted those!
A few people at work have started doing a lunch time 5k, so I joined them today for a bonus 3.1 very easy paced run in the sunshine.
Heartcore pilates after work. Full day!
Friday: Solo run with 3×1 mle at GMP with 1/2 jog in between; 7 miles total. Miserable weather this week, with cold rain. Ready for spring (though still prefer cold rain to worrying about breaking a leg on ice in Minneapolis!)
Saturday: Another rainy London run! Tina and I ran to Battersea park (south of the Thames) via Hyde park:
We thought it would be 6 miles, but we couldn’t find the start line of the Taylor Swift 5k, so we ended up with 8 miles, then did a very disorganized and chaotic “Swiftie Run” 5k for 11 miles total.
I knew that the race would not be “swift” or well organized, but it was a bit worse than expected! It started over 30 minutes late, which meant standing around in the cold rain, then they kept moving us back and forth from the starting line before we finally started. The gear check was just a pile of bags and a few employees holding up bags and yelling out numbers (which obviously didn’t work when not everyone finished at the same time.) I felt bad for them, it all was just a bit of a mess and there were so many little kids doing it probably as their first race ever because they love Taylor Swift. The organization isn’t to blame for the weather, of course, but definitely for the delays! Tina and I ran it with another friend and we were quick to head to a coffee shop to warm-up after, and I still had a blast spending time with the two of them. And honestly, I knew it was going to be a bit disorganized so I shouldn’t complain…too much. The swag was cute!
I spent the rest of the afternoon bundled up on the couch watching trash TV! Eventually I did some core and lower body strength.
Sunday: Even though I ended up with 11 miles the day before, I still had my long run to do! I had organized a run with the Mornington Chasers, 14 miles from their meeting spot in Kentish Town to Victoria Park and back along the canal. I usually jog to the meeting spot, but was feeling the higher mileage and didn’t want to be over 14 miles, so I walked there and walked home afterwards.
I did see the cutest lab swimming along the canal; she was so happy even though it had to be chilly!
Speaking of dogs, Ruth is doing okay, though I know she misses Matilda. I’m trying to convince Dustin its time to get a second dog, but he doesn’t want to rush into it…
Summary: 60 miles of running, 2 pilates classes, 2 additional strength sessions at home. Big week after a few so-so weeks (NYC and then Verbier); getting serious about Paris now!
That’s a wrap! I’m linking up with Running on the Fly and Confessions of a Mother Runner; check out their blogs to connect with other fitness bloggers for workout ideas and inspiration!
